PCM has access to 21 Ministry of Health hospitals & health centres in Perak. The clinical facilities include family and community based clinics, maternal and child health care, hospitals that provide basic specialist care and Ipoh hospital i.e. a tertiary referral centre.
A) Primary Health Care facilities
Adequate exposure to primary health care facilityes and patients are made possible by the number of centres available in and around Ipoh . In addition, students may be posted to as far as Taiping or Slim River for district experience. Participation of the private clinics ensures a variety of different types of case mix exposure to students.
B) Secondary Health Care facilitiesUnder the Placement Agreement with the MOH, 3 district hospitals will provide secondary health care services. They are Taiping hospital, Teluk Intan hospital and Manjung hospital. Facilities include specialist care, radiological and laboratory services, clinical clerkship and post graduate training.
Tertiary Health Care facilitiesIpoh Hospital is one of the 13 hospitals in the state of Perak Darul Ridzuan. The hospital was built in 1891 as the Ipoh District Hospital . The hospital has been upgraded to General Hospital in 1942 when Ipoh replaced Taiping as the capital town of Perak . At present, the Ipoh hospital provides its service to the population of Ipoh and acts as the referral centre for the other 12 hospitals within Perak Darul Ridzuan. The hospital is equipped with modern facilities and technologies as well as specialist care and sub-specialist services. Average workload for a year is 650,000 outpatients and 50,000 inpatients.
